2 Day – Celebrating Everything Radio 2
On Wednesday 22 June 2011, Radio 2 is set to turn its schedule upside down for 2 DAY – a 12 hour celebration of everything the UK’s favourite radio station has to offer.
You’ll be able to follow all of the excitement live and as it happens on this very webpage. Meet us back here on the day for video and audio “best bits”, behind-the-scenes photographs and some live chat with Radio 2 friends and family!

THE SCHEDULE FOR “2DAY” – WEDNESDAY 22 JUNE:
Starting at 0700, Jamie Cullum and Simon Mayo kick off the day. Evening presenter Jo Whiley and the Radio 2 Arts Show’s Claudia Winkleman continue between 0800-0900, passing the baton to current affairs supremo Jeremy Vine and Saturday’s Dermot O’Leary at 0900.
The day takes its first foray into live music at 1000 with a very special live broadcast from the BBC’s Maida Vale studios where Janice Long, Bob Harris and Mike Harding will be waiting with some very special live guests.
Johnnie Walker and Brian Matthew go head to head from 1100 as they challenge the 60s and 70s to a musical duel in The Battle of the Decades.
From midday, Breakfast and Weekend Breakfast presenters Chris Evans and Zoe Ball come together to Rock and Roll Back the Years
At 1300 Richard Allinson presents Moments 2 Remember, the top ten music moments from Radio 2’s extensive archive of live music performances, as selected by Radio 2 presenters.
Smooth talkers Michael Ball and David Jacobs unite at 1400 for a late lunch of Sunday-style easy listening, followed at 1500 by Ken Bruce and Bob Harris’ whistle stop tour around Radio 2’s specialist music shows, playing interviews and music from the worlds of country, folk, brass and beyond.
Pick Of The Pops presenter Tony Blackburn and the Soul Show’s Trevor Nelson go Soul 2 Soul at 1600 when they share music from their favourite genre.
From 1700 Steve Wright introduces the Comedy Hour, a sampler of Radio 2’s comedy gold including a special edition of Matt Lucas’ And The Winner Is… and Stand Up 2 Day, showcasing the talents of the network’s comedy stars.
The day will reach a musical climax with a live and exclusive concert from the Radio 2 All Star band. Presented by Sir Terry Wogan, this musical extravaganza combines the musical talents of Jools Holland and his band, The Organist Entertains’ Nigel Ogden, Big Band specialist Clare Teal and Brass specialist Frank Renton, Jazz expert Jamie Cullum, classical singer and Good Morning Sunday presenter Aled Jones, Rhythm and Blues authority Paul Jones and Fun Lovin’ Criminal Huey Morgan.
