Jamie Cullum in ‘Pursuit’ of early 2010 outing
Singer/songwriter Jamie Cullum [ tickets ] has lined up North American headlining dates in March to support his recent album, “The Pursuit,” which is his first new studio effort in four years.
The British jazz-pop performer kicks off the outing March 4 in New York City, ending the 14-city trek on a West Coast swing that culminates March 25 in Los Angeles. Details are included below.
“The Pursuit,” Cullum’s fifth studio album and first since 2005’s “Catching Tales,” surfaced in November. Cullum worked with producer Greg Wells (Katy Perry, Colbie Caillat) in Los Angeles on the record, and selected the final track list from a pool of more than 30 songs he had originally recorded in his own London studio.
“I often have to answer that boring question: are you a jazz artist and is this a jazz record?,” Cullum said in a recent interview with the UK’s Telegraph newspaper. “But I thought starting with ‘Just One of Those Things,’ a song that has a long, proper jazz piano solo is a statement of intent in some ways: ‘Yeah, listen, I can play.'”
Cullum had taken time off after spending two years on the road in support of 2005’s “Catching Tales.” “I played in other people’s bands and worked with other artists, I DJ’d, made dance music with my brother and traveled,” the crossover artist said in a press release.
During that time, Cullum also built his own studio and earned a Golden Globe nomination for the title song for the film “Gran Torino,” which he co-wrote with Clint Eastwood
