Coming up next week on Jamie’s radio show – Soweto Kinch

Next week Jamie interviews his friend and contemporary Soweto Kinch; the British jazz musician, hip-hop MC and musical educator.

Soweto chats to Jamie about getting the jazz bug and meeting trumpeter Wynton Marsalis when he was a teenager. The pair also discuss their mutual love of jazz samples in hip-hop music, and the importance of story-telling in Soweto’s music.

Next week, Jamie meets one of his true musical heroes: the piano player, singer and composer Dr. John.

Dr. John talks about his incredible life and career, from being brought up on the voodoo music of his home city New Orleans, and the influence of Professor Longhair; to being shot in the hand and consequently moving from playing the guitar to the piano.

With a new album out this month, Dr. John also talks about his new project with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and inspiring a new generation of fans.

Next week, Jamie’s guest is the American jazz-pop singer, songwriter and guitarist Curtis Stigers.

Curtis performs stripped-down tracks from his latest album Let’s Go Out Tonight, at the BBC Maida Vale Studios.

Jamie also selects some of his favourite classic tracks and showcases new releases from the rising stars of the jazz world.

Last year BBC Radio 2 had it’s first 2Day, and after such overhwhelming feedback it’s back!!

2DAY returns on Thursday 10 May 2012, combining Radio 2′s award winning mix of content with its stellar range of presenting talent.

On 22 June 2011, BBC Radio 2 celebrated its distinctive programming and eclectic range of presenters by turning its schedule upside down for 12 hours, and hosting a bonanza of the best of what the UK’s biggest radio station has to offer.

The Radio 2 audience told us in their thousands via Twitter, online and telephone that they enjoyed the day so much that we’re doing it again.

And bringing the day to a close, Breakfast host Chris Evans fronts a live music extravaganza from a venue in Central London at 6pm with guests including the host of the Radio 2 Jazz show Jamie Cullum, folk band Bellowhead, the cast of the hit West End show The Jersey Boys and Chris Rea.
