Jamie Cullum has revealed that he used to play electric guitar before taking up the piano.
Speaking to CMU Music, the star stated that acts such as Ben Folds and Harry Connick Jr influenced him to become a professional pianist.
However, he said that when he was younger, he was particularly keen on rock bands such as Nirvana and AC/DC and learned their songs on electric guitar.
“I started out making music just a young teenager trying to ape the rock and pop stars I loved,” he commented.
Cullum cited Ben Harper and Eddie Van Halen as other favourites during his younger days, saying he tried to master the latter’s electric guitar solos.
The musician recently credited his brother with helping to trigger his interest in music.
He told the Western Mail that he started playing the electric guitar after seeing his brother play the instrument.
Cullum added that whereas other children at school were interested in football or academic subjects, he was always keen on music.
